Smoked Salmon and Smashed Avocado Toast (Low Fructose, High-Protein, Keto)
There is a common misconception out there that stepping into a wellness-focused routine means trading your favorite comforting breakfast rituals for chalky shakes or uninspired scrambles. But if you ask me? The absolute best way to honor your body is with a breakfast that sets you off on a good start for the day.
Living in Arizona, I frequently wake up feeling dehydrated. I am convinced this is one of the reasons why I love something salty first thing in the morning (after drinking water of course). If you are a salt-craver like me, then this smoked salmon avocado toast is an effortless and delicious way to get protein, high quality fats, sodium and fiber into your diet. Keto bread tastes so much better when it’s toasted until golden brown, and the smokey richness of the salmon is really the star here.

It has everything you want in a dream morning meal: crunchy, perfectly toasted low-carb bread, fresh smashed avocado, and savory, melt-in-your-mouth cold-smoked salmon. It looks like an upscale Sunday brunch, but it comes together in less than ten minutes flat.
Why Your Body (And Your Brain) Will Thank You
Beyond how gorgeous it looks on a plate, this recipe is a masterclass in clean, sustainable eating. Instead of sending your blood sugar on a wild roller coaster before your workday even starts, this combination focuses on high-quality proteins and essential fats to keep your focus rock-solid and your digestion perfectly smooth.
- The Ultimate Fat Buffer: Avocado and smoked salmon are packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and anti-inflammatory Omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats do something incredible; they slow down your digestion, ensuring a slow, steady release of energy that keeps you completely satisfied until lunch.
- Zero Fructose: If you are mindful of fruit sugars or managing a sensitive gut, this savory plate is a total safe haven. It contains absolutely zero free fructose, meaning this meal is liver-friendly and bloat free.
- Salmon is the Star: Salmon is an amazing nutritional superfood; it supports lean muscle recovery and keeps your morning cravings entirely at bay. It’s also considered an excellent food for protecting brain health.

Why Fish For Breakfast?
Salmon has high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, whereas common breakfast meats like bacon and sausage carry high amounts of omega-6 and saturated fat. Omega-3 lowers inflammation while too much omega-6 can trigger arterial stiffness.

The Clean Swap For Breakfast Meat
If you find yourself craving something salty, greasy or meaty for breakfast, I encourage you to give smoked salmon a try. It’s definitely salty, has an almost buttery quality and while it does look oily in the package, it is oil entirely derived from the salmon and not from processing.
The fat found in salmon is exceptional for healing the liver. By swapping out the saturated fats and Class I carcinogens in bacon, sausage and chorizo with polyunsaturated salmon fat, you are choosing to not add additional strain on your liver.
The added advantage of salmon is that it is one of the world’s densest sources of EPA (eicosatetraenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). These long-chain Omega-3 fats insert themselves directly into your cellular membranes, making the cells fluid, flexible, and highly responsive to hormones like insulin. This directly combats metabolic sluggishness and supports liver health.

Smoked Salmon and Avocado Keto Toast
Ingredients
- 2 pieces keto bread I use Nature's Own
- 1 small avocado, halved and pitted
- 3.5 oz smoked salmon
- ¼ lemon
- pinch flaky sea salt
- chopped chives, to serve
Instructions
- Toast the keto bread until golden brown.
- Scoop out 1/2 of the avocado onto a slice of bread and lightly mash it around with a fork. Repeat for the other slice.
- Sprinkle a little flaky salt and drizzle a squeeze of lemon over the avocado (I like to layer my lemon juice so it doesn't all run off my salmon instead).
- Top each piece of toast with the smoked salmon, chopped chives, and a final squeeze of lemon juice. Simple and delicious!
